last update: 2019 02 20machine person is a person with machine body parts.
Some machine persons will have biological body parts.
Some machine persons will have no biological body parts.
- A transhuman will be defined as a person whose body was created or modified (e.g. genetic engineering, machine body parts) and who belongs to the human species.
- A posthuman will be defined as a person who resembles a human but does not belong to the human species.
IMO transhumanism (trans means across, beyond, through) is the study and promotion of the creation and evolution of persons beginning with humans.
Change means death of what was.
In this sense, immortality is not even wanted.
Any change of constraints and perception and intelligence leads to a different behavior and personality.
Any person changes and thus "dies" over time.
One has to wonder how important natural death is.
Regarding my death:
I am not able to care if I simply die. Without pain. Without fear. Maybe even in joy.
Regarding the death of others:
I want to keep what I like.
Anyway, it is important to know that change and thus death is inevitable.
Life and thus change continues. Good experiences and friendship with good persons remain possible.
Maybe after 2030 and almost certainly before 2050:
- All body parts except some brain parts can be replaced by machine parts.
Most brain parts can be replaced by machine parts.
Notably those responsible for rational intelligence, memory and control of the machine body.
Rational intelligence is supported and provided by AI.
Some biological brain parts might be kept because only they offer human mental awareness like color, sound, joy, humor and other awareness.
These brain parts are replaced piece and piece over time by younger genetically improved brain parts.
The brain parts for fear and pain are limited because they are useless except for teaching empathy and morality.
- Brain parts will be controlled (stimulated or calmed) by machines as wanted or needed.

Putting electronics in the brain does not prove anything regarding the mental awareness of electronics. But I agree with the question about "the right stuff".
IMO, artificial intelligence based on electronics must to tell about its awareness in order for humans to "know" (AI might lie) more about the awareness of electronics. Mental awareness.

This allows to detect cells and thus maybe:
- to affect cell behavior.
- to destroy cells like e.g. cancer cells or bacteria.
- to replace cells like e.g. bad cells by good cells.

Follow the evolution.
In particular the problems related to aging.
A machine body part:
- can be perfectly shaped, designed, built according to the state of the art.
- can be easily and cheaply created, maintained, replaced.
can provide arbitrary sensations and experiences.
Implants might remove addiction, laziness, dissatisfaction, depression, anger, envy, regret.
can remain functional and healthy in an environment that is harmful to biological body parts.
Less or no need for shelter from weather on Earth.
- is suited for life on other planets and for life in a spacecraft.
has no need for air, water, food and processes like e.g. respiration, digestion, blood circulation.
has no diseases like e.g. parasites, microbe infections, immune system disorder, cancer.
will do everything better than a biological body part.
Except maybe for human mental awareness.
